Course Overview
This new course provides an intensive lesson on how to use best practices in cascading balanced scorecards in order to create strategic alignment in organizations. The course will focus on the development of tier two (department, business unit and/or support unit) scorecards that are aligned with enterprise wide scorecards as well as the development of strategically aligned tier three personal development plans. Topics covered by the course include:
- Basic concepts of balanced scorecard cascading and how it can be used to improve organization alignment
- Various organizational cascading models
- Cascading lessons-learned based on real examples
- How to cascade a tier 1 balanced scorecard using our award-winning nine-step methodology
- How to develop more meaningful performance measures on the department and individual level
- How to align incentive packages with the corporate scorecard
- The correct sequence of steps that are necessary to build a strategy-focused organization

Course Benefits
You will understand key concepts of the balanced scorecard cascading, and why it is gaining so much attention in corporate and governmental organizations. You will learn a systematic methodology for building and implementing the multi-tiered balanced scorecard, based on the performance management theory developed at Harvard University and our international balanced scorecard consulting experience. You will receive a Performance Scorecard ToolkitTM with worksheets for each step of the methodology.
Performance measurement and personal development software will be illustrated to show how you can use tools to assist in setting up scorecards, and in collecting and reporting strategic information. You will also learn about some of the challenges and pitfalls of strategic management, and how to deal with them.

Attendees completing this course will qualify for 2.1 CEUs through our alliance with the University of South Carolina.
Hands On Training
Through case studies and a series of interactive small-group workshops, you will apply the balanced scorecard cascading concepts to meet the challenges facing a typical organization. Exercises performed throughout this course include:
- Develop Tier 2 and Tier 3 strategic objectives
- Develop multi-tiered performance measures aligned to the strategy map
- Develop measurements that 'roll-up' through the organization
- Develop multi-tiered initiatives to execute strategy
- Define requirements and select appropriate software
- Scorecard deployment, budget and time scheduling
Instructors
The course will be taught by the Principals and Associates of the Balanced Scorecard Institute. These instructors have specialized expertise in balanced scorecard training, facilitation and consulting in public and private-sector organizations that have cascaded.
